Committed to Connection. Focused on Family.
June Is National Safety Month!
We want your family to have a safe and fun summer! Here’s some safety tips to do during National Safety Month:
- Make sure all your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are in working condition. Tip: keep your carbon monoxide detector low to the floor. In case of an emergency, you would want it to start beeping before it reaches the levels of nose and mouth.
- Talk to your children about the difference between a “secret” and a “surprise”. This helps them distinguish between harmless, temporary fun and potentially unsafe situations. A “surprise” is joyful, temporary, and shared later, such as a new baby on the way, Christmas gifts, or a birthday party. Whereas a “secret” is intended to stay hidden and often makes a child feel scared, sad, or uncomfortable. Teach your child to come to you if someone ever asks them to keep a “secret” with the intention of the “secret” never being shared with anyone else.
- Come up with a code word with your child in case someone else ever has to pick them up from a location. Teach your child that if the person picking them up does not know the code word, to not willingly go with them.
Did You Know?
June is also National Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Awareness Month. Foster care youth are about 2x as likely to suffer from PTSD as U.S. war veterans. Studies show 25% of former foster care youth experience PTSD due to prior abuse and neglect, stigma of being in the system, multiple placements, and instability. Up to 90% of children entering care have experienced at least 1 traumatic event.

Forever Families has launched a new clothing line called The Hope Collection.
Our first collection, First Threads, features inspirational T-shirts and baby onesies designed to support children entering foster care. Through our Buy 1, Give 1 program, every purchase helps provide a donated item or equivalent gift to a child coming into care.
Every order helps bring comfort, dignity, and hope to children during difficult transitions while supporting the ongoing work of Forever Families.
Orders can be picked up at our office in Livonia or shipped directly to your home for an additional charge.
